I Finally Bought a New Couch!

January 6, 2025 by Michele Neylon 2 Comments

When I moved into this house back in 2017 I had quite a lot of things going on, with some significant outlays for builtin wardrobes, floor to ceiling bookcases and of course beds, upgraded heating and a lot more. So back then I chose a fairly basic pair of two seater sofas. I didn’t know a lot about couches so I was surprised to find out that there was a lead time of 6 to 8 weeks, as most of the sofas are imported from China or other parts of Asia. I’ll admit, at the time, I didn’t really care. I needed a sofa and chose to get two two seaters so that there’d be seating for any visitors.

After a couple of years the overall quality of the couch I’d bought had made itself known. Getting up and down from the couch had become more like getting in and out of the damn thing, as it had little to no proper support and you sank deeper and deeper into it. Yes, I am very aware that my weight does not help, but I don’t have this kind of issue with a lot of other couches I’ve used over the years.. So replacing the couch was added to “the list“.

Anyway

Enter Finline in Emo. They’re an Irish company that make all their furniture in Ireland in their factory in Emo, Co. Laois. I had heard about them when I was looking into Irish furniture makers, as I was interested in getting something that wasn’t a cheap import.

Back in 2021 I visited their showrooms, but I was completely overwhelmed! As it’s all “custom” you have quite a few choices to make:

First off, you need to choose the overall style of couch – they’ve got multiple styles. Once you’ve done that then you’ve got all the fabrics to choose from and that’s not just colour, but also style.

So I simply didn’t know where to begin, so I just gave up. I was defeated!

Of course since then I’ve had time to think about it a lot, so when I went back out there last week I knew pretty much what I wanted.

I chose the “Monroe” style, as I prefer clean lines and I really dislike frilly anything.

I chose a kind of grey fabric for the covering which is coupled with black feet for the couch.

I wanted something that wouldn’t be too light, as I know that I’ll spill stuff on it and I didn’t want something that would look grotty after a few weeks.

Hopefully I’ll be taking delivery of my couch in February or March.

Am I excited?

Sadly, yes!

Congrats on the new sofa! Good choice on the colour too. People often advise to go for a statement colour but we found with our grey sofa, you can add nd swap colour more effectively with coloured cushions and throws etc. So there you go!

    Peter

    thanks 🙂
Yeah – I know that I’m going to spill stuff on it – always happens!
And my sister gave me a lovely throw for Christmas that will look great on it, along with some fun cushions I’ve picked up over the years.
