I’ve been a fan of Amazon’s marketplace service for quite some time. It seems that Play.com have now followed suit and introduced their own version of it.
The system is pretty cool and easy to use, though it is firmly aimed at the UK market, which is a pity.
You simply choose to sell an item and then are guided through their catalogue to choose the corresponding item. You can search using ISBN, barcode or simply the item name.
If you are based in the UK a listing is easy to create, but if you’re in Ireland you are going to have slightly more difficulty as you will have to allow for the postage costs to all EU states.
All in all though it’s a really nice idea.
You can see it in action here

I’ve picked myself up some out-of-print DVDs with the PlayTrade setup, quite handy and in some cases you’ll find real bargains in their too.

I haven’t used it yet as a buyer, as I keep buying stuff from Amazon vendors instead 🙂

Just a word of warning to those selling on playtrade – For some weird reason, if you only make your items available for UK dispatch they can still be bought from UK dependencies such as Gibraltar though you will receive no extra shipping credit for this even though you will have to pay extra to ship there!

Roo – thanks for the tip!
It sounds like they need to refine their shipping options a bit, as I can’t imagine that’s very popular with sellers

I’ve only used PlayTrade once and I got sent the wrong CD. In fairness, there was no problem returning it, and getting the money back, but it was still a disappointment.
Won’t stop me from trying again if something I want comes up.
Niall.

It can’t be as bad as the time I got sent an LP instead of a CD by an Amazon vendor 🙂
