Pet Hates – People Arriving Late to the Cinema

July 6, 2008 by Michele Neylon 6 Comments

I’ve been to the cinema twice in the last couple of days.
On Friday night I went to see Hancock in Kilkenny, while last night I went to see Wanted in Carlow.

Both evenings people came into the cinema several minutes after the film had started. I’m not talking about the adverts or trailers, but the actual film itself.

They wander in then spend several minutes standing around trying to find somewhere to sit and talking as well.

End result being that your film viewing is disrupted.

Grr!

Saw Wanted on Thursday – not bad, good action, but story a little weak I thought.
Saw Hancock this evening – not great TBH, quite slow and rambling. Expected more.
In between I’ve been annoying some hosting cos support πŸ™‚

Never heard of “Wanted in Carlow”… is that a local production about a hosting guy looking for a house? πŸ˜€

Yesterday I took the kids to the cinema. Film scheduled for 11:30am
At 11:35, they actually opened the doors because their computers were down. I took the kids to the toilets and then down to the film.
We’d managed to miss the first 5 minutes. And had to try to find seats in the dark. With two kids and two boosters, this is something to be endured.
I was more annoyed than anyone.

I can’t see why anyone would go the cinema anymore – with all the people making noise moving about, talking on the phone, discussing whats going to happen next because they’ve seen it before. Then theres the people throwing their food and drinks at random for giggles. And the people who, when asked to stop talking on the phone until after the show, start kicking the back of your chair repeatedly. And the people who bought so much to drink that they have to go to the toilet twice during the film and interrupt you on the way in and out both times, and then get filled in by their pal about what they missed. Then theres all the spilled food and drink that staff have failed to clean from earlier airings. And don’t dare make a complaint – I was told: “if you don’t like it go to ****’s instead”.
15 euro for this? And I get to watch a load of ads for stuff I will never buy too. Nonsense!

@hostyle – now you know why I spent so much on a decent home cinema setup πŸ™‚
Part of the problem with a lot of the smaller Irish cinemas is that the seats aren’t raked, so if anyone comes in late they cause major disruptions. It’s part of the reason why I go to the cinema so much when I’m overseas, as LA, London and Paris have such nice cinemas πŸ™‚
