Cheeky, but funny πŸ™‚
I’ve mentioned the ongoing issues with the death of Smart in the last couple of days on one of my other blogs ….

You can’t help but feel sorry for Smart.
But then again, one company’s failure is another’s opportunity…
Of course, in the background Eircom are laughing all the way to the bank…one of their most threatening competitors dead in the water.

I feel sorry that a company has failed (or is about to) but I don’t feel overly sorry for t them. They were splurging on marketing and advertising like there was no tomorrow, while they knew full well that they couldn’t deliver the service to even a fraction of the people that had signed up, which meant that their revenue streams were extremely fragile. Yet they didn’t stop or even slow down.
I also feel sorry for their clients who are now suffering and for the many staff who have lost their jobs.

Agreed. But they were also having to operate in an competitive environment that is unbalanced and one which *should* have been better regulated by the telecoms poodle.
At the end of the day Ireland loses.
Eircom will end up being case study material for MBA students methinks.

You know you complain about Enterprise Ireland’s site… and then post on your blog with an image that’s too big and can’t be read properly… I don’t know, quality standards are falling these days…. πŸ™‚

That’s the thing, I never ‘got’ art when it was weird (i.e. not a painting or boring sculpture), when i’m on holiday I’d much rather wander round a photography exhibit or a park, give me real life over art any day!! πŸ™‚
Glad you liked the podcast, I really enjoyed being there that day and it was a subject that I’m very passionate about. Come to the next BarCamp, I have my talk for it in mind already!!

I like it. πŸ™‚ Hopefully most people see sense and don’t revert back to Eircom from Smart.

While it’s painfull watching a company like Smart go down the tubes like this I like this type of advertising.
We shoud have more of this “our competitors are shite” advertising.
It would certainly be an improvement of the current standard of uber-blandness advertising…

It could be that the “suing culture” that prevails puts people off that style of advert

    “Suing culture”, mmmmm….
There’s another thing that I have to get rid of once I rule the world…

Hopefully. At least they are confident their broadband service will continue.
Plus they’ve given a speed upgrade till the new year. So i’m happy … for now.
