Heading to Japan for a Holiday

February 24, 2019 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

I’ll be in Japan for the upcoming ICANN meeting, so I decided that I’d take advantage of that trip to have a holiday. I’ve never been to Japan and I’ve no idea when I’ll get back there, so it seemed like a good idea. As with my trip to Peru last year I chose to use the guys at Jacada Travel to organise it for me.

I contacted them about the trip months ago and finalised it all with them a few weeks ago. But it was yesterday that it started to “get real” when their “welcome pack” arrived by courier. I really love the attention to detail and the nice little touches they’ve put into it:

So where will I be going?

I’ll start off flying into Osaka, which is pretty well served with international flights. I’m sort of dreading the flight from Europe, as it’ll be a marathon. My flight from Paris to Osaka clocks in at just under 12 hours! So maybe I’m being a little optimistic in doing a tour of Kyoto on landing, but that’s the current plan! (It’s not like I don’t sleep on flights anyway, plus I probably wouldn’t be able to sleep on arrival anyway, as I prefer to “push through” )

As I’ve never been to Japan anything I see will be new to me. When I was going to Peru last year there were a couple of specific things I wanted to see, but this time around it’s a blank page. I’ve always been curious about some aspects of Japan’s history and culture, but I’ve never been overly fixated on any specific aspects of it.

I’ll be spending the first couple of days in and around Kyoto and will get to see a number of the sights in that area before taking the bullet train to Hiroshima where I’ll spend a couple of days. After my few days of tourism I’ll then have a full week of meetings!

As usual I’ll be taking photos along the way and will share some of them on my Instagram profile, though I also hope to take photos with my proper camera and will share those both here and on Flickr.
