I was at BarCamp on Saturday.
I would have said I was there “all day”, but I was called away for a few hours by my mother, who had managed to get a puncture and needed rescuing (that adventure maybe worthy of it’s own blog post!).
The event was incredibly well organised and I must thank all the organisers and volunteers for making it such a great success.
The venue itself is lovely and nicely situated right beside Cork City Hall. There was a really good wireless connection throughout the building, so I was able to check mail and browse sites that people mentioned
We, Blacknight, were sponsoring food later in the day, but other companies had sponsored the name badges (Sigmar), tshirts and refreshments.
I like events as they are a great way to meet people – some new, some I’d never met in the “real world”, but have dealt with via email etc.,
A lot of the “regulars” were present, such as John Breslin and Bernie Goldbach, but I also got to meet Donncha “WordPress” O’Caoimh who spent most of the day showing how his Apple laptop was really a multimedia production suite. I’m beginning to see that there maybe some truth in their advertising π So maybe Donncha would be better off getting a job as a laptop salesman? π
In common with a lot of events it’s only after that you get to really talk to people, so we all moved over to The Bierhaus on the quays.
As I was driving I was on my best behaviour, but that didn’t stop me having a good time.. I finally made it back home for about 4.30am!!
It was good fun and I’m really glad that I made it.
Thanks to Damien, Conor and Walter for all their hardwork.
Several people were snapping photos on the day (and during the evening) so you may find them on Flickr

I thought I was the only one who called Donncha that. First time I met him he said “I’m Donncha” and we chatted away. Suddenly, I realised who he was and said “oh, you’re Donncha WordPress”. I think he should change his name by deed pool!
Great meeting you Michele and I’m glad you enjoyed the day. Thanks again for the sponsorship – I was really fading at that point and the food perked me right up.

I think we should just put it to a vote. If we all start calling him that he may feel obliged to answer π

Oy! I suppose I asked for it wearing that tshirt.
Are you thinking of buying a MacBook? Don’t tell anyone, but I’m quite impressed with it! π

Donncha, The t-shirt was a bit of a give-away all right! I managed to avoid calling you Mr WordPress, but the t-shirt gave me a big clue as to who you were, hence my ‘initial comments’ about WordPress that you filmed!! π
