I quite like the Facebook timeline. It’s got its uses for both people and business pages.
However some of the options on it strike me as a little odd – especially if you’re filling in your “past life” ie. pre-Facebook activity.
Do people actually share pre-Facebook relationship information?
I’m not sure I’d be overly comfortable with doing that. I am “friends” on Facebook with a couple of girls that I’ve had relationships with in the past. At least one of them is now married. How would her spouse feel if a relationship that ended over ten years ago were to suddenly appear on Facebook?
Moving away from the more personal ..
So you can get a job or start a university course, but you can’t get promoted or actually graduate or win any awards? That’s a bit limiting.
When you move into the health and lifestyle stuff it’s also a bit odd ..
You can overcome an illness, but what if you haven’t yet? What if you were just informed that you have some kind of ailment and you wanted to share that information? (Or maybe Facebook thinks people don’t want to share negative experiences?)
And then there’s the really quirky ones ..
I can’t honestly remember my first word or my first drink.. I’m not even sure I can remember my first kiss (I can remember my first kiss with specific women – don’t worry!)
Playing around with filling in “events” on the timeline is, however, still quite amusing, as it helps me to recall past events – it also reminds me that I probably ought to update my bio / CV in case I ever need it again!
