Libel Online

January 8, 2006 by Michele Neylon 9 Comments

Hugh, or at least his company, may have been subject to libel by a publication this weekend.
If you are unsure about what libel, slander or defamation are exactly then the short guide from Digital Rights Ireland may be helpful.

Tell him to read Frederick Forsyth’s “No Comebacks”, a collection of short stories. The story, “Privilege” is about a small business man who was libeled by a newspaper and his novel way of correcting that libel!

    Thanks for that Alan,
Unfortunately another publication up the other end of the country decided to write a very stupid article with some very stupid and untrue claims.
    My solicitors are on it.

Tom – the article in question was very biased and could have damaged Hugh’s company’s reputation.

Hi I need some advice on which way to turn:
I purchased a cat in May 2005 – The people I purchased her from had been breeding cats for 17 years, However I purchased a Blue girl with the intention of her being a pet, When I got her home she looked rather podgy, I had her to the vet a few days later and she was diagnosed as 6 weeks pregnant, I rang the previous owner to tell them they said to get a pregnant spay – I refused as she was due within 3 weeks. My cat had to have an emergency C section due to mummified kittens bloking the way for 1 live kitten which later died. My vet seems to think that the mum was given something to make her abort which would explain the mummified and later the death of the live kitten she lasted 12 weeks.
These people are now saying that I am a kitten and Pupy farmer – Which I am not, I managed to have their other site closed down to defamation, but it looks like these people are starting again. I have contacted the police about them but they are very reluctant to do anything. I do not wish to sit around and do nothing – If you look at their web page as listed above- Please could you pass on your comments – We also run a Boarding Kennels and Cattery which they are also trying to ruin.
    Many Thanks
    Mandy
