Today is fast becoming “spam Monday”
So far this morning I have received unsolicited bulk email from three Irish companies:
- Fota Island resort
- Monster’s Irish office
- Golden Spiders
Are these people aware of the amount of damage they are doing their companies by using this kind of marketing methodology?
The Monster email was particularly bad, as the person who sent it obviously doesn’t know how to send mass email properly and included all the recipients in the CC field
I’m submitting the lot to Spamcop and any other blacklist I can think of
Has anyone else been getting this junk today?
Yeah well I have “unsubscribed” twice from their mailing list. And yet again I found my inbox getting the unwelcomed visitor of a 3rd email from them.
They obviously are not cleaning the mailing list in the first place (and more to the point, I dont even remember signing up for it in the first place)
Yes I got two from Golden Spiders. I removed myself from the list when I received it.
A long standing issue with a company for me has been Apartments Direct – http://www.tomdoyletalk.com/2007/09/05/apartments-direct-spammers/ . I still receive spam from these even after reporting them to both spam cop and their ISP. At my wits end now as to what I can do.
I don’t know about the other companies, but you have done Fota Island a major disservice and are wrong in your accusations.
Now for the facts ..
Fota Island hasn’t send UNSOLICITED emails to anyone, those sent, had subscribed in some way to their information services. No emails addresses were bought from anywhere or received from any external source.
If you’re basing your ‘omg spam!’ on the say so of one or two people who forgot they filled out a form on some website.. did you bother to check how many emails were sent out in total before jumping on your high and mighty horse?
It was a mail to their customers telling them about the xmas deals, and now you’ve got them on blacklists .. well done .. really .. well done … lets hope your actions go a long way in securing redundancies for all!
Get a grip.
I have friends working there, I know noone there are very technically minded when it comes to the internet and its workings .. but well done to you, you’ve struck a blow for the nerds against the uninformed .. kudos
As far as I know you’ve succeeded in your crusade.. you must be proud.
Now, my question to you .. did YOU contact Fota Island to inquire about this or did you just come to your conclusion out of pure ignorance?
I’d heard of you bitching about them from a friend and contacted Fota where I got the facts .. they haven’t heard anything from you.. afraid of the phone? Did you think of the implications of your ‘decision’ .. people in Cork are worried about their futures with alot of companies pulling out, and here we have little shits making it hard for those still there.. man .. people like you who live in their own little fairyland get on my nerves.
Kindest Regards,
Balmark
ps. you weren’t such a dick when it was just a simple BBS you were running.
Balmark or whatever your real name is
Fact. We received email from them
Fact. We are not clients of Fota Island and have never contacted them.
As far as I am concerned it is unsolicited bulk email.
They’ve been in contact with me this morning about the mails and insulting me in their defence isn’t particularly constructive. Of course you’re hiding behind a pseudonym, so that make it nice and “safe” for you.
Hiding behind a pseudonym my ass, look for balmark online.. I was Balmark on your BBS, gtalk me at balmark@gmail, or balmark@hotmail, I’m there most times. I’ll give you my name, address phone number and star sign if you like. Is michele@blacknight.ie any type of login (gmail/hotmail?)
And no offense, but what type of response did you expect when you go about blacklisting people.. honestly..
Perhaps you have people who go around signing you up to stuff with michele@blacknight.ie, who knows, it seems like you might have a knack at developing those type of relationships.
Bulk emails .. under 200 ? wow ..
What BBS??
Unless Balmark is your real name then it is a pseudonym
And you may want to look into what constitutes bulk email. It doesn’t have to be a million emails to be considered bulk
‘HIDING by behind a pseudonym my ass’, yeah its a pseudonym but hardly hiding.. if you want to try ‘win a point’ on every possible thing.. it more describes your personality more than anything else.
You cant consider the fact you could be wrong ..
You’ve added an Irish company to blacklist sites to hamper their business.. did you bother unsubscribing by the way? (to a service you subscribed to somehow)
Bulk email .. ok so 2 mails can be considered bulk emails.. that’s more my point though, you’re knee jerk reaction is damaging an Irish company.. but you’re ok with that .. you feel its ok to screw them over because they sent out 142 (checked) emails to people that have subscribed to this information.
I believe you DID subscribe or were subscribed by someone and just don’t know it. You think, out of 142 email addresses, they picked yours out at random? cmon .. I know you’re a blogger and wow .. I have such respect for bloggers .. (I mean to read how your day is going is the highlight of mine!) but I don’t think that’ll give you the status you ‘think’ you have..
Then again, I would add you to any list I could think of, so you never know ..
You really haven’t got a clue about how blacklists work, have you?
@balmark: Dude, you need to cop on and stop overreacting. You’d swear somebody’s just ran over your dog.
For mail servers that use anti-spam filtering like spamassassin or spam clients (that hook in with outlook etc) ..
They send out an email, it gets flagged by the mailservers spam or clients spam, and typically gets dumped into a ‘junk email’ folder (when was the last time YOU checked through your junk email for legitimate mails).. or the mail gets wrapped and flagged as spam, or deleted .. depending on the rules the user/admins have setup ..
They send a client a mail telling them they need to send a deposit or confirmation, it gets flagged as spam, sent to spam folder, is never seen, client turns up on the day, but the booking they had reserved is taken..
well done.
seriously.
You are a credit to your own company, I’ll recommend your thoroughness and professional attitude to anyone I know. You are diligent and don’t react without thinking.
talideon, I’m not the first to overreact here..
It’s Michele’s ‘fight the power’ based on ignorance and misinformation that I can’t stand. If Fota were sending spam, I’d be all with you all, I cant stand it.. but when one person like this ****** reports a company because they want to feel like a Knight in shining armour, its so sad .. so pitiful
Michele, do your research before you try to discredit a company, it’ll only bite you in the ass otherwise.
It WAS a solicated email by the way, for all who are interested or have read this, Michele is 100% in the WRONG here, but refuses to acknowledge it
I’m sure someone from blacknight will have told him this by now.
I’ll remove Fota from any RBLs I know of.. but blacknight should take responsibility for its mistakes and do it and at the VERY LEAST post an appology about this. You are wrong. You are a wannabe internet bully/thug..
If this is what you get your jollys on, try walk outside .. meet a few real people, get laid.
Balmark or whatever your real name is
Oh dear God. You are tedious
Someone from Blacknight? I own the company for God’s sake.
The email was not solicited. I have spoken to their marketing manager and the matter has been cleared up.
If you knew anything about me the very idea of me signing us up for any newsletters coming from any company operating in Fota would strike you as crazy.
As for DNSBLS – you can’t remove a domain that hasn’t been listed and if you knew anything about how blacklists worked you’d understand that my one report would not be enough to have gotten them listed.
And I’d recommend you tone down your comments. If you disagree with me that’s fine, but I take libel very seriously
Regards
Michele
Eh, Ballmark – it’s clearly obvious it was unsolicited email. I think you’re missing the point completely……
Eh, Tom Doyle – no .. I’m just checking here to wait for him to tell the truth tbh.
He’s just looking to shout out about something, anything .. a typical ‘look at me!! I’m complaining about something! over here! over here! look at meeee! give MEEEEEEEEE attention!’
He owes an appology, he knows it, he just won’t admit it cause it’ll hurt his net-ego.
I know what his point is, but since I KNOW he’s lying about the fota issue, how can anyone be sure he’s just not making it all up *shrug* .. how much did he look into anything before bad-mouthing any of these companies .. I could be pretty sure the answer to that would be .. none.
Empty ships and all that shit ..
If a reporter in some article for a newspaper wrote like this, he’d be forced to print a full retraction .. and even the legitimate parts of the report would be questionable due to everyone believing they just write shit off the top of their heads and make stuff up as they go along.
