How Not To Get A Favourable Mention On A Blog

May 15, 2008 by Michele Neylon 4 Comments

Anyone who randomly sends forwards me .doc press releases without even making an effort to personalise the email stands zero chance of getting a favourable mention from me ever.

It’s not terribly hard to use some mailing software to send out press releases.

Why do people presume that everyone uses Word?

How hard would it be to actually address an email to me personally? Is that too much of a challenge?

It’s not terribly hard to send email – thousands of spammers manage it, don’t they?

So why on earth can’t someone send a press release properly?

And since Donncha has already “named and shamed”, I will too.

Ifoods.tv – you really need to get a clue.

It’s not a matter of web2.0 vs web 1.0 or anything like that. It’s simply a matter of using, as we say in Cork, a bit of “cop on”.

You may have been nominated for an award, but it obviously wasn’t in marketing or email usage based on the rubbish you sent me today and the way you sent it.

As I said over on Donncha’s blog, got it too and NOT in any way impressed. Just a bit stupid. Good post on why it was so bad.

Yeah for some reason people believe that if they send out large amounts of mail that they will get a mention “at least” somewhere.
I’ve been sent stuff to my own personal blog asking if my Web Design firm would be interested in advertising on their website.
I’m sorry but 5 mins on my blog and you’ll know I’m not a design firm.

Michelle I was going to copy and paste what I had said on Donncha’s blog but am on tenterhooks as to what I type today. Sending the first email was a massive error but one where we genuiely believed we were doing a favour by passing it on to bloggers before traditional media. This was naive and should not have been done in the way it was. For this I take 100% blame and apologise profusly. The second email(which i personally sent) was also an error and again I apologise for the bad etiquette, it is not acceptable and will not happen again. All that I can say is that I swear 100% that the first email was intented to be a favour to bloggers and that I do not encourage of condome spam in any form. From now on I will be spending more time in the kitchen and may never send an email again! I realise what happened today was wrong and can not apologise enough. Niall
