With only 3 days left until publication Harry Potter fever is about to strike!
The nice people at Amazon are promising delivery to UK addresses if you order by midnight tonight:
As always you can choose between the “adult” edition and the normal, children’s one:
From a marketing point of view the adult version is a brilliant idea, but surely a bit redundant at this stage?
I know I’ll be trying to grab a copy as soon as I can and I won’t care which edition it is 🙂
In yet another brilliant move they’ve setup a special area on their site where you can countdown to the release plus get loads of other snippets of information.

Spoiler:
“Wait a minute!” said Harry quickly, dropping his bags. “I’ve got one last thing to do!” Hearing sighs from his Uncle and Aunt, Harry sprinted as fast as he could to the other end of the train station that led out into a giant meadow surrounded by a massive lake. Harry ran up to the lake, and using every ounce of willpower and determination in his body, he ripped the Ring off of his finger, looked at it one last time, and then threw it as far as he could into the body of water, hearing it’s incredibly faint plop as it hit the water far away. That being done, Harry walked back to his bags, picked them up, and smiled. “Yes Dudley,” said Harry, taking a deep breath. “Now… now I am ready to go.”

Rings? Sounds terribly Tolkienesque 🙂

You’d have to ask Ms Rowling. Thats the last paragraph of the last chapter. I can post some more if you like 🙂

I prefer reading the entire book instead of snippets out of sequence 😛

They should bundle some dodgy fan-fiction with the “adult” version 😉

Actually I don’t understand the draw of the Harry Potter books for adults. I’ve tried reading a couple of them and thrown them down in disgust after 20 or 30 pages. Its just too – i don’t know – simple-minded? I know its nice to read books that don’t tax the mind too much now and then just for the fun of it, but I find Harry Potter annoying. Of course 90% of what I read is Fantasy so I’m probably biased. All IMO of course.
Anyone got a definitive reason for whay they read HP?

I find them very enjoyable.
About 3 years ago my sister sent me a boxed set with all the Harry Potter books that had been released to date. I had seen the films, which I enjoyed, and wanted to read the original books as I know how different and generally better they can be.
They may be children’s books, but they are not childish in anyway.
