My frustration with Mensa is growing.
So the latest rubbish is around double standards.
Yesterday Mensa International posted on Facebook about how Taiwan was being recognised as a national Mensa. Due to the politics around China and Taiwan there were a few comments of a political nature that led to their social media team responding:
Mensa is a non-political organisation, with country names following the Olympic system.
So a few of the Irish members asked, quite rightly, why this was being ignored in Ireland.
The response was incredibly tone deaf, ignorant and quite offensive – I’m using screenshots below as they’re likely to remove all the comments:
I am yet to receive any response to my previous email and based on what I’ve learnt over the last couple of weeks it’s unlikely that I ever will.
Mensa International has a set of rules and processes about how a country, such as Ireland, could setup its own national mensa, but they’re now flat out refusing to follow these rules and processes. They’re now sending people to British Mensa who in turn ignore them completely.
This is farcical.
And the irony that it is an association for supposedly bright people that is being this dumb is not lost on me .. or others …
Derek says
well said Michele. This smacks of an imperial power suppressing its supposed “subjects”.
Even though we are NOT its subjects.
The fact that Mensa International is headquartered in the same jurisdiction as the oppressor is merely a “coincidence” and is not contributing to the issue at all 🤨
Double Standards indeed. It takes so long to get a response we might be better advised to strap a message to the leg of a carrier pigeon and let it off
