I’ve got a bunch of domains.
Some of them are “live”, while others are earmarked for various projects and ideas that will hopefully take shape at some point in the not too distant future.
There are two other categories of domains:
- Impulse buys – it’s amazing how attractive a domain looks at 3am when you’ve been drinking some nice Polish vodka!
- Orphan domains – these are the ones that I know could be great ideas / projects, but I’m not sure what to do with them
A couple of the “orphans” are bothering me.
- buildrssfeeds.com – I picked that up on Afternic recently. It wasn’t expensive and would be really handy for some kind of RSS related service. I probably won’t develop it, but it was too good to let go
- corklanguageschool.com – I picked this one up ages ago. I can’t remember why… I should really put up for sale on Afternic and see what happens …
- irishcityguide.com – directory? guide? What would be a good way to make use of that domain?
- irishgolfreview.com – I don’t know anything about golf! The domain seemed like a good idea at the time
- ispwatch.eu – I got this one to go with broadbandwatch.eu, but I’ve no immediate plans for it
- linuxquickguide.com – the name says it all, but what could you do with it?
- babble.ie – I was thinking of setting up a general forum, but I’m not sure if there’s enough space in the Irish market.
- irishinternetguide.com – it seems catchy, but is it of any use? Would a site pick type site work? ie. picking a cool site every couple of days?
- modrewrite.co.uk – it was available. I grabbed it. Now what?
- technology.ie – What would work well for this domain? I’ve had loads of ideas, but I couldn’t settle on one
So if anyone has any ideas / suggestions no matter how silly they may seem I’d really love to hear them.
If anyone wants to buy any of the domains (apart from the .ie ones) let me know, as I may be open to offers if they’re reasonable (no no no. Ten euros is not reasonable and yes I will laugh at you)

modrewrite.co.uk – list of useful mod rewrites? from beginner to advanced

Maybe, but what format would that be in? A simple list?
A blog?
A list of articles?
Links to articles?

irishcityguide.com seems to me the pick of the bunch. Why not use it as an brochure/ advertising site?
Contact the various tourist boards for Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and the large towns, and offer them their own dedicated mini-site that they can update themselves, either with tourist information or events. Maybe a subdomain for each town/ city, with seperate logins etc?
It might take a bit of time and effort to get it up and running, but with your online reputation and your background, I’m sure you could make it work.

My main problem is finding the time to do something like that. I’ve got a number of good domains that are semi-developed at present and while I do try to move these little projects along I suffer from not having enough time free to do so.
I may, of course, simply dump some of the existing sites in favour of new projects.

I would just throw up some articles on the modrewrite.co.uk domain, no need for a blog or anything. Just ten or less static pages with all the relevant information.

I suppose I could do that, but I’d probably use MovableType to manage the articles π
There’s no reason why it can’t be a set of pages instead of an actual blog.
A few minor tweaks to the template would get rid of any of the blog related stuff – or I could leave it in …
Hmmmmmz

It’s great being able to come up with good ideas, but like you said, time is very often the big constraint on what you can achieve.
Given the amount that you already do, I’m amazed that you find the time to eat or sleep!
Michele Neylon says
What’s this sleep thing of which you speak? π
Paul says
I understand that it’s something that people with normal jobs get to do. Believe it or not some people can spend 8 hours every day sleeping. What a waste! π

I do much the same…and keep havng to look at my renewal bill with interest going…
Hmm…WHY on earth…
ukwifi.net for example, is for an idea about how to give away wifi for free (yeah yeah, eyeballs eyeballs, ad supported, wakka wakka). At least for this one I had a professional designer do logos and whatnot.
It was so marketing-speak that I haven’t QUITE got round to a business model…ahem….
Michele Neylon says
MJ – I’ve a bunch of wifi related ones as well, though I’ll probably just let them drop completely

The mod_rewrite site is now live π
