Last Thursday afternoon, while the ICANN meeting was wrapping up in Buenos Aires, a historic moment was reached. At 5pm Irish time the .irish top level domain entered “general availability”. In simpler words – from that moment onwards anyone, anywhere can now register a .irish domain name.
This is cool.
It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to for several years.
I’ve already got michele.irish and will probably register more domain names for both personal and business use over the next few weeks and months..
It’s also a sad moment, as one of the driving forces behind the .irish domain name passed away before Christmas.
