A friend tagged me on Twitter a couple of days ago with “my life in pictures”.
So I thought I’d participate.
I take photos with my phone or one of my cameras when I’m travelling. Over the past few years I’ve taken literally thousands of photos. Some of them are incredibly boring, but others aren’t.
So in order to participate in this Twitter thing I thought I’d explore my archives on Flickr. I’ll admit my Flickr account isn’t very well organised and due to my own stupidity I accidentally uploaded a lot of rubbish a couple of years ago as I wasn’t paying attention to the setting in their desktop app. (The downside to having an insane amount of bandwidth at my disposal in the office!)
But I have been “relatively” good at organising past trips into albums.
With the Twitter “challenge” in mind I started looking back at the albums of old trips. It was a nice little trip down memory lane. But I’ll also admit it was with mixed feelings that I came across photos of friends who have since left us. It’s bitter sweet. I’m sad that they’re no longer around, but in some ways it’s nice to see their smiling faces.
The challenge involves posting one photo a day for seven days, so I dug out through my old photos and scheduled all the posts in advance. I was sort of afraid that if I didn’t do that bit of prep then I’d forget to post them!
In any case while looking for seven photos (and also trying to see who on earth I should tag) I also got to spend a bit of time looking at the old photos, as I mentioned.
I’m not going to wax lyrically about every single photo or album, as there a lot of them, but I did think I might dig out a few that caught my eye.
So here we go.
A few years ago I was in Cuba for a couple of weeks and took quite a few photos. This one in particular is of a rather quirky shop in one of the smaller cities outside Habana.
And yes, you can buy your own coffee pots from them, though obviously you’d never be able to use them!
I’ve visited the Imperial War Museum many times over the years. It’s one of those museums that I’ve always found fascinating.

Back in a time before digital I also took photos. I didn’t take as many as I do now and I’ve misplaced a lot of the photos I took, which is annoying.
I lived for a couple of years back in the 1990s in the city of Cáceres in Spain. The old walled town is haunting:
That photo was a scan, so it’s not the best quality in the world. I regret that I can’t find a lot of the photos I took back in the pre-digital era. Some of them might turn up at some point, but I won’t be holding my breath.
Of course at the moment like everyone else I’m not going anywhere, so it’s kind of fun to look at photos of some of the truly amazing places I’ve been to over the years like Bled in Slovenia:
We had dinner up there one of the evenings, which was nice.

Maybe one of the upsides to the current situation is that I’ll finally find time to organise my old photos…
