Grandad Ruined My Keyboard

July 5, 2008 by Michele Neylon 5 Comments

Grandad ruined my afternoon. Well he didn’t really, but he did reduce me to fits of laughter.

One of his recent posts is based on search engine queries (adult content advisory I guess).

Do I need a big cock? That depends. Do you have a big hen?

That hurts!

I checked my own stats from January 1st 2007 to July 4th 2008. Seemingly over 286 thousand visits from search engine users with over 86 thousand keywords / phrases!

What were they looking for? If you skip the mundane stuff there’s very little else left.

There seem to be quite a few people looking for “porn” and “bizarre questions”. They might want to hook up with the people looking for “irish sex sites”.

The rest of the search queries are really really boring. Maybe I should spice it up or something?

Here’s a strange one for you at the boring end of the scale…
Since the 6th November and 9th May last, I have had 598 searches for ‘fd25aa6609f3c7ba64d280dff3d0dec0’ WTF?????
What the hell is that about? And not one search outside that date span.
Do spice up your site a bit. Tell us all about the sordid affair of yourself and that sheep, that you don’t want to talk about….

    @ Grandad
Looks like an MD5 encrypted password hash.
Wordpress had a vulnerability around the time you mention where it was possible to work out the admin password using that seamingly meaningless string.
An example I saw was where someone searched google for the name ‘Anthony’ which encrypted in MD5 by WordPress is ’20f1aeb7819d7858684c898d1e98c1bb’
Google’s results would allow you to see if any WordPress installations had that as part of a URL and could be used to gain illicit access.
That wulnerability has long since gone though.

Thanks, Robert. I was hoping it might have been something interesting like the CIA, but never mind.

It could have been the CIA trying to crack your blog 😉

I like to think so. It’s a long time since they tried…
