Eircom are RFC compliant in that they accept regarding abuse complaints sent to abuse@eircom.net HOWEVER they do not seem to process input to that address
In what could best be described as bad judgement, but might be better labelled as something else (I am trying to be diplomatic) Eircom have an auto-responder on their abuse@ address.
Whether you approve or disapprove of autoresponders is one matter, but putting one on an abuse@ address is a little annoying.
In any case you are instructed to submit all abuse reports via a web interface, which sort of renders the abuse@ email address useless.
The actual web interface is horrendous.
You are given a stupid numbe of options to choose from and including the offender’s IP!!
Ok, I may be able to read email headers and extract the IP, but I would never expect a client to do so. What is going on with Eircom’s abuse department?
Providing a web form as a “preferred” method of reporting abuse is one thing, but actually forcing people to use it is another. When you combine that with the total lack of usability you have a recipe for disaster.
Maybe it is an Eircom tactic to reduce their workload?
