Sockets, Lights and Switches

December 25, 2016 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

Since I committed to buying the house I've had quite a bit of time to think about things I wanted to put in it. Some things were fairly simple (shelving and bookcases), but I also wanted to make sure that the house would be setup to cater for my gadgets. I'll probably need to get a few extra sockets fitted, but the house has a reasonable number of sockets already so it's not as … [Read more...] about Sockets, Lights and Switches

Working on Preparing the New House

December 18, 2016 by Michele Neylon 12 Comments

the kitchen in my new house is fully fitted

As I mentioned a few days ago I am now a house owner. Yay! Unfortunately "closing" a couple of weeks before Christmas means that it's impossible to get electricians or plumbers until the New Year. The house doesn't need a lot of work, but I've already found a few minor issues, like a toilet that isn't filling, and an electric gate that only opens from one side. I Finally Bought a House

December 13, 2016 by Michele Neylon 4 Comments

As of this afternoon I am a house owner. Or, put another way, I have a mortgage. I've been living in rented accommodation since I was 18. In the next few weeks I'll be moving in to my new house, which will be soon the place I call "home". The photo above isn't fantastic and today was quite overcast in Carlow, so it doesn't look as well as it could do. And yes, it'll … [Read more...] about I Finally Bought a House

The Brownshill Dolmen is one of the largest Portal Dolmens in Europe with the cap stone weighing over 4 tons. It is located just outside Carlow town in Ireland.

I've been living in Carlow for over 12 years. Prior to moving here I was in Milan for about 3 years. I've lived in other big cities, but I grew up away from towns and cities in the Irish countryside. At times living in a small town can be a pain. But at other times you find that there are some amazing differences between a small community and a big city. When I lived in … [Read more...] about The Upsides To Small Town Living

Spending New Year’s Eve In An Airport Hotel

January 1, 2015 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

I've always had a rather odd relationship with New Year's Eve. While for some people it's a "big" and "important" night out, it's never really been that much of a big deal for me. Years ago, when I lived in Spain, the New Year's Eve parties were something I really looked forward to. We'd start the evening with drinks around the Plaza Mayor before heading for dinner with my … [Read more...] about Spending New Year’s Eve In An Airport Hotel
