As anyone who knows me will probably work out fairly quickly I like food and I like cooking. I’d never pretend to be a particularly good cook, but I enjoy it and find it quite soothing.
I’ve always liked being able to support local Irish producers when I can. Now, however, with a global pandemic it’s become even more important. For the next few weeks and possibly months many of us will be restricted to our homes for most of the time. We can go out to shop for food and other essentials, but we’re being discouraged to do so unless absolutely necessary. (See this site)
So I was thinking that having a directory of Irish sites that are still selling food and drink would be helpful.
I know that many of the food and drink companies have cranked up their operations in the last couple of weeks or pivoted their business models to cope with the current situation. Some have full e-commerce, while others are offering a more “basic” service. Many offer home delivery, while others are running a “click and collect” model. And the situation is changing almost daily.
With that in mind I’ve set up a simple directory. I’m not a designer, so it’s not super pretty, but it should be functional.
UPDATE: Big thanks to Stephen who made it look a lot prettier!
I also believe that if you’re going to setup a site you should choose an easy to remember domain name:
I’ve created some basic categories, but if anyone has suggestions for others to add please do let me know.
Listings
What’s there at the moment are sites that either I knew about or people let me know about.
You can add any you want.
If you own a site that’s already listed and want to update it you can “claim” a listing.
If something is fundamentally wrong with a listing claim it and update it.
If anyone has any questions or would like to help please let me know via the comments or ping me on Twitter or somewhere else. (I”m really not that hard to find!)
Disclaimer: while I have bought from some of the sites that are (or will be listed) in the directory I am NOT responsible for the services they may offer, so please don’t complain to me about them!
