The Ideal SIP Client For Mac OSX?

For the last few months we’ve had a SIP / VOIP setup in our offices.

My experiments with accessing the system using a SIP client on my iPhone were disastrous.

However I hadn’t had any reason to do any proper experiments with using a SIP client on my desktop until today.

I’m currently using “Telephone”, which is functional, but not exactly amazing.

So what SIP client software would people recommend for use on Mac OSX?

  1. There really isnt much that works well out there. After searching pretty extensivly the only things I found to work well were ExpressTalk and ZoIPer. Neither of which are very impressive. But they did work within minutes of downloading unlike every other app I tried.

I’m still looking. I’ve tried a couple of apps, but so far nothing has really impressed me

  3. Are you sure you want an app that ties you to the computer?
I use the very good Siemens S450-IP real telephone. (other Siemens models also available) It connects to both my landline and ethernet as a SIP client and can access 8 separate accounts.

I was looking for software as I don’t want more clutter on my desk. I also use a MacBook Pro quite a bit, so having to haul more hardware around wasn’t too attractive.
Using a software solution means that I can use one of my bluetooth headsets to hook up to the Mac and reduce all the clutter
    Thanks

  5. I’ve just been going though this myself and have found “Express talk” and “iSoftPhone” to be good. iSoftPhone may become my favorite- it has Addressbook integration. Trial software from their website: http://www.call4mac.com/

  6. Blink ( http://icanblink.com/ ) works pretty well from my experience….

I was able to get it working in less than two minutes feels like Mac software.

NOTE: My needs have been fairly basic, so your mileage may vary. I do plan to try Jitsi and see how the two compare as I do like the notion of a multi-protocol system….
