Depending on what you are doing your domain can be central to your business. If someone starts messing about with the ownership and control of the domain it can cause headaches.
Unfortunately some companies seem to get their kicks from messing around with companies’ domains, which make up part of a company’s IP (intellectual property).
If the domain is with a “respectable” company you should not have any issues, as long as there are no outstanding billing issues. However, if you are unfortunate enough to have been conned by some companies you are in for a “rocky ride”.
The most common issue is with the domain being registered with the hosting company’s details. Although this can happen to the best of us, some companies do this intentionally all the time.
You can check your domain’s registration details by doing a whois lookup.
Why am I mentioning this?
Probably because at least 6 clients of ours are having issues with this at present while trying to get back control of their domains from wannabe internet professionals. I won’t name names, but you know who they are …..

A couple of people have asked me in private to name names. I may do so in private, but please don’t ask me to do in public 🙂
