Running A Business Is Fun When Things Break

July 5, 2007 by Michele Neylon 2 Comments

I enjoy business.
I enjoy pressure and stress and the lack of sleep….
Well I sort of do, but not all of the time.
This afternoon I had to email a large number of our clients directly as a result of a programming glitch:
We Made A Mistake – Sorry!
I don’t like it when we screw things up. It undermines the work we’ve put in to build up our business to date and I always take that personally to some degree. It’s hard not to.
On the plus side it did teach us all a valuable lesson – though I’d much rather not learn things this way.
At least the expiry dates on our end should now match those on the IEDR’s end …..

Michael, its refreshing as a blacknight customer to see such a proactive response to a problem. You are definitely correct in your approach, as I personally learned of the problem in an email and via the blacknight blog. Alot more hosting businesses could learn from your approach. I host a number of sites with fasthosts, and have a one blacknight site at work. Your approach to problems is the difference between night and day (excuse the pun). I just hope that this level of service is maintainable as the business grows.

    Paul
    Thanks for the feedback
We rely on you, our clients, to let us know if we are doing it properly or not.
    Regards
    Michele
