The IEDR, as mentioned here in the past, has been making changes and improvements to their systems and services on an ongoing basis.
One area that has always been problematic is the WHOIS output. Unlike some of its international counterparts the IEDR did not provide information on domain expiry.
The other issue was that the system could only return two possible values:
– the domain’s details
OR
– NO MATCH
With other registries this would be more than enough, however the IEDR has more than two statuses for domains:
– available (ie. not registered)
– pending
– taken
– other – such as suspended or pending deletion
This has finally been addressed, so that whois now returns three possible values:
Domain is available:
% Not Registered - The domain you have requested is not a registered .ie domain name.
Application pending (ie. someone is currently trying to register the domain or is in the process of finalising registration):
% Application Pending - There is currently an application being processed for
% the domain name you have requested.
And if the domain is actually registered you now get to see the expiry date with the IEDR.
