IE Domain Pricing Slashed

December 19, 2005 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

The IEDR made a couple of announcements over the last couple of weeks that are of interest to companies and individuals operating in the Irish internet industry.

The first one was the new look, which I already mentioned
The second announcement was expected, though the exact details of how they were going to actually implement it was not 100% clear until the day the news came:
.

IEDR reduces prices by 20% for dot.ie internet domains
The IE Domain Registry (IEDR), the managed registry for Ireland’s dot.ie domain names, has today announced its most significant price reduction to date; a 20% price reduction for new dot.ie domain registrations and renewals of domains with effect from 1st January 2006. This latest price reduction follows a series of price cuts, including 12.5% in January 2005 and 10% in January 2004.
The 20% price reduction has been introduced as a result of high growth rates of registrations, which have now surpassed 54,000, positioning dot.ie domain names as the Irish market leader, with 46% of the market. The surge in growth of registrations is largely driven by the IEDR’s internal process improvements, a buoyant economy and by the national roll-out of broadband, leading to an increased number of Irish businesses and consumers harnessing the full potential of the internet.
Commenting on the price reduction, David Curtin, the Chief Executive of the IEDR, said: “The IEDR is committed to giving consumers value for money, by taking the appropriate steps to reduce costs. The continued streamlining of our operational and administrative systems has enabled us to pass on the benefits of these efficiencies to our customers.”

There was, of course, a reduction in pricing for resellers such as ourselves as well.
As has always been company policy we are going to pass on the saving where possible.
Unlike some other companies we are not going to tie people into hosting with us (though our sales team will obviously try to sell hosting to anyone who enquires), nor are we going to try and start some kind of hypocritical crusade.
Instead we will be doing the following:
January 2006 – Offices re-open after Christmas. ALL orders for IE domains will be charged @ EUR30 ex-VAT for new registrations and transfers.
Other pricing information will be released during January 2006 (I really don’t feel like giving the whole game away just yet 🙂 )
For further information see the announcement
