House Hunting Fun

April 23, 2008 by Michele Neylon 10 Comments

I was househunting again last night via Daft

I work in Carlow, so I need to find somewhere that is close to Carlow, but not necessarily in the town.

Unfortunately none of the property sites seems to offer a “radius” search function and I also can’t filter out “sites for sale”, which is really annoying.

There are some nice properties for sale under 200k, but I’m still trying to work out if they are within an acceptable commute distance

I would suggest Athy, but the house prices are still ridiculously high, even though there is literally hundreds of houses for sale here.
It won’t be easy finding a reasonable house at a reasonable price, although i’d say you are well aware of that 🙂

How far is Athy from Carlow in terms of driving?

it’s about 15-20 minutes drive to carlow centre. Getting through carlow to graiguecullen is the hold up. Actually getting through carlow to anywhere is a nightmare

Well I wouldn’t have to go into the town to get to the office, as we’re on the Athy side

    Hi Michele,
There’s now a filter on the advanced tab for sale and rental searches on Daft.ie whereby you can exclude sites (or any other property type you want!)

Ah. I wasn’t aware of that. I think possibly I didn’t notice, as the option was buried below the advanced search option. I’d normally go to daft.ie > sales > carlow (or whichever area) > order by price. If I go to the “advanced search” page I can see the exclude option, but only if I expand the options down the bottom of the page, which is why I wasn’t even aware of it

    Michele,
You didn’t miss it – it’s only been added to the site as of this morning!
I see your point about it being almost hidden away at the bottom of the form though, it’s now been re-jigged to right underneath the property type selection.

    Ah nice 🙂
Now if you can let me search in a “radius of X” from “Y” I’ll be really happy !

The route planner on AAireland (http://aaireland.com/Routes/) is useful for getting the distance between two places. Apparently it’s 14.9 miles from Athy to Carlow.

Nice one 🙂 That’s so obvious and yet of course I didn’t even think of it!
