Helm 4 Is Not Ready

Webhost Automation have released Helm 4 but it’s premature.
It’s simply not ready for release.
Who in their right mind releases a hosting control panel that doesn’t support MySQL?
What sane person would leave out modules that are so popular such as Awstats?

They seem to be going down the route that other software vendors have taken of late, namely:
– Announce major update
– Hype major update
– Change licensing
– Launch half-finished product
– Omit previously included modules
– Promise to include omissions when public get annoyed
Their marketing blurb is laughable if you actually know what is going on, like their article on how windows is cheaper than linux (??)
Don’t get me wrong – the software is not bad, but what’s bugging me is their harping on about how “wonderful” v4 is and then releasing it with basic functionality missing…

  1. I rather like helm and plan on running with it in the future for new windows servers I roll out, replacing my previous choice plesk. This release is disappointing however and simply would not work.

A lot of end users like it, but they keep missing out on basic functionality that you really need if you are handling any real volumes

  4. Being a developer I know why these companies get things out as early as they can. Its fustrating as an end user. Looks like I’ll also be waiting for the rest of the modules to come out and also how to write my own, but I can now see the potential of version 4 and what the fuss was about.. Its a clever, powerful system.

  5. I’d admit I am a little bias. I’ve met the guys and talked to them about the new version and hoping to get into writing my own modules for it. I honestly do like what they have done though.

  6. I think you’re missing the big picture though. From their screenshots page: “Even better… everything is skinnable!” See? How could you NOT want it now?

  7. Did not work, would not uninstall, and I can not remove the registry entry!
I’m keeping good notes and I’ll be posting them on my space. Are you guys sure it’s legit?
