News and current affairs has always fascinated me.
Nowadays every person with a mobile phone can take photos or stream video. However while the rise of the so called “civilian journalist” can be a bit of a mixed bag in terms of accuracy, context etc., it does provide a huge amount of content. RTÉ, Ireland’s public broadcast service, did a fantastic job combining footage from multiple sources including their own journalists to provide some fascinating and disturbing insights into the recent riots in Dublin.
I’ll freely admit that when I saw some of the footage on my mobile phone the night of the riots and again the following morning they didn’t have the same impact as when I watched them on the big screen as part of this documentary the other evening.
Great use of technology!
