The Dancer Mia Frye

August 11, 2023 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

Luc Besson has been involved in a lot of quirky films over the past 30 or so years. Some of those films are just plain awful, while others are fun if not a little flawed. The Dancer starring Mia Frye is quirky but fun. I rewatched it last night for the first time in several years and while some of the technology in the film has definitely aged, the underlying story and … [Read more...] about The Dancer Mia Frye

Cheesy Film Trailer

November 30, 2022 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

Some old films have aged really well. Others, however, haven't. In some cases there's something a little "off", while in others the style is just so different to anything we'd expect these days. Sergio Leone made his mark with westerns (the spaghetti westerns) in the 1960s and 1970s. However before that he did this really cheesy film set in Roman times - The Colossus of … [Read more...] about Cheesy Film Trailer

Rutger Hauer’s Monologue in Blade Runner

August 20, 2022 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

Probably one of the top 10 most iconic scenes in 20th century cinema. Rutger Hauer plays an incredibly violent character in Ridley Scott's 1982 film "Blade Runner". Harrison Ford might have been the headliner, but Hauer steals the scene. The scene, which features a powerful soundtrack by Vangelis, is quite beautiful in the context of the film. Fun fact - Hauer … [Read more...] about Rutger Hauer’s Monologue in Blade Runner

From Monty Python's Life of Brian the original "What have the Romans" piece. Life of Brian has some fantastic scenes - of course the entire film has aged well, but some of its scenes are great standalone comic pieces. Being Monty Python there's also something more than just a joke. I suspect that's part of the appeal and why they've aged so well. Masterful. … [Read more...] about Monty Python’s “What Have the Romans”

Mitivaï Serra Sings With Eric Serra

January 16, 2022 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

Luc Besson's film "Anna" features a soundtrack by Eric Serra. Hardly a revelation as so many of Besson's films have had Serra's music to accompany them. However what made this one a little different is that one of the tracks "I am Criminal" is sung by Serra's daughter Mitivaï Serra. The music video of a father and daughter working together to make music makes a nice … [Read more...] about Mitivaï Serra Sings With Eric Serra
