While I haven’t seen the film adaptation of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code it sounds like I haven’t exactly missed anything.
Some of the quotes from reviews over on Rotten Tomatoes would definitely put you off forking out the bones of 10 euro to see it. The general consensus seems to be that the film is too long, dragged out and uninspiring…
Sounds a bit like his novels…….

I disagree that his books are “too long, dragged out and uninspiring”. The “uninspiring” noun is immediately dispelled by the hundreds of documentaries which were inspired by his Da Vinci book. As for “too long”, and “dragged out” (which are synonyms of each other), I have read his books, and each one of them was a thriller – I don’t think I was ever bored in any of them.

Just because a lot of people are in awe of the entire Da Vinci code thing does not make it anymore inspiring. Millions of people use Microsoft Windows, however you would be zealously against that….
You may not have been bored by his books, but then again you may not have been lucky enough to read any good thrillers. Try a Kathy Reichs and come back to me.

Brown’s The Da Vinci Code is tripe. I couldn’t finish it and I only know one person (out of five or more) that could.

I liked the book, think the people that kicked up such a fuss about accuracy should be kicked up the fundament. Looking forward to the flick, although I won’t be surprised if it is drawn out — the new King Kong could have been a classic, but they screwed it up trying to make it… a classic; simply by pushing an extra hour in when it wasn’t needed.
Now, that’s got that out of the way, tell me about this screen version of Kathy Reichs…?

Eoghan – I’ll probably watch it on DVD.. Some films, even if they are dire, have to be seen so that you can really criticise them 🙂
What pisses me off about Bones is that I’ve liked most of her books because they seem to be (which isn’t the same as saying they are) grounded in fact. Whereas the TV show is grounded in… well, science fiction. Worse again that Reichs consults on the show.
(Before the pedants jump in, when I say “grounded in fact” I mean that the procedures come off as realistic, rather than the stories. No, I’m not gullible enough to take the DaVinci Code as gospel. Arf arf.)

They’re two very different animals. The books are a great read, which, as you say, seem to be grounded in fact. The TV show is pure escapism, so I wouldn’t be worried about its factual basis. I enjoy Buffy – that’s hardly factual!
Bones doesn’t have vampires Michele; it’s supposed to be set in the real world. Anyway, you like it, I don’t; it doesn’t mean I’m any better than you, just that I’m more intelligent, better looking, and better endowed.
Just don’t let me catch you watching BB7, or I’ll have to kick your head in (thereby demonstrating that I’m harder than you too).
The only time I’ve ever watched the UK Big Brother was when I was living at home and my sister insisted on watching it.
The Italian version was quite amusing and I had the excuse that it was to improve my language 🙂
