Does anyone know if there is a mechanism for reporting false claims in Google Adword campaigns ie. paid ads that Google Adword publishers run on the search and content networks?
I’ve come across a few that are highly misleading, but I can’t see any way to report them.
Chris Byrne says
If you click on your own google ads “Ads by Google” follow the link to “Send Google your thoughts on the site or the ads you just saw” There is a Report Violation option in the form.

Dave Davis says
According to AdWordsAdvisor
“By all means, do contact the adwords support team – and ask them to take a look. When doing so, please be sure to include enough information to ensure that the support person will be able to find the ad(s) in question. At the minimum, please include the keywords searched, and the display URL of the ad. A copy/paste of the entire ad(s) would be even better. ”
You can give them a call ot the Dublin office on:

Don’t expect much from them though.

Thanks 🙂
I’ve contacted them about it and sent them through details of one of the offending ads

Great. Let me know how that pans out. (Assuming you don’t get the standard boilerplate email response).

No worries – they upheld my trademark complaint 🙂

fair play for actually taking time out to report the ads.. i’ve come across my fair share of false advertising on google.
i suppose we don’t really complain as we’re just so used to spam/junk appearing all over the place.
michele says
@Chris – the problem with Google is that the issue has to fit their boilerplate exactly, which is why contacting them directly was necessary. If it was as simple as a trademark / copyright violation I could have used one of the normal report forms
@Sean – I’m ever so slightly motivated 🙂

I contacted the google adwords team and sent them copies of 3 entire ads that violated policy by having no information about the company they were mud slinging against in their headline.
I received a note back saying that although I may think the ads violate policy or are irrelevant to the content of the site they go to, the adwords team will be the party to make that determination and will review ads at their discretion.
The ads were actually slams against my company and showed up on my own website for my customers to see. I did not appreciate google telling me to go away and be quiet, in essence, and wrote them two more times. Neither follow up email received any response and the ads are still showing up on my site costing me who knows how much in lost revenue and lost customers.

Are the ads triggered by anything that you might hold the rights to?

I’m tired of going to “free” something and after imputing all the info a pay/membership page comes up. It’s either free or it’s not. There is no grey area here.
