Coca Cola are a huge company.
They have an equally huge advertising budget (think of any of their Christmas ads and you’ll see what I’m talking about)
However they also seem to have a bit of common sense and pragmatism in their marketing department.
Over the Christmas period they are going to be giving designated drivers plenty of free non-alcholic drinks:
f you are the designated Driver for two or more people then have a drink on us.
This Christmas we are giving you up to 3 Soft Drinks Free when abstaining from alcohol so that you can enjoy a great night out too.
Full details and list of participating pubs can be found on their site (via Anthony on the OPEN list)

When I seen this first I was my usual cynical self and thought, “that’ll never won’t work. besides, none of the pubs in my area are even involved”.
Thinking about it though, if it saves even one life then it’s been a huge success.

I saw this in my local paper this week with a list of all the participating pubs. I think it’s a good idea and boosts the profile of coca-cola. Glad to see they give a crap! It might work better if they just handed us out taxi vouchers with every JD and Coke! 😀

Will they pay my dental bill?

Drink driving laws do not effect many people who live in a town or city for the most part. The traggic deaths you read about are on country roads at 1, 2, 3 a.m. This problem could be cut in half easily by a study on these accidents/incidents. Profile age group 16 to 55 males on thurs, fri and sat nites from 10p.m to 5a.m. Watch pubs which have a large amount of cars around them after 12a.m. but very few at 8a.m. Close these pubs and send gardai in uniform to tell customers not to think about driving. Try a simple approach like this for 12 months. I bet you would cut the drunk driving deaths in half. Remember that people go to pubs to drink alcohol and socialize. Few people go to drink 3 free cokes.
