Sugar CRM – Outlook integration

February 2, 2005 by Michele Neylon 6 Comments

I’ve been using the excellent Sugar CRM for the last couple of months.
The last couple of releases have included an optional (paid) plugin for Outlook. It interfaces with Sugar via soap and allows you to export contact details from emails and archive entire emails.
Very very handy!
The only gripe I have with it is that the GUI lacks a “close” button, but has a “cancel” one, which suggests that the action is going to be cancelled.

Do you know if it also imports notes? And does it connect to Exchange Public Folders, or only mailbox folders?
All of our data is in Exchange, and there are custom fields, and I cannot find a bloody thing to export my custom data or my notes data.

It only works with Outlook. It’s basically a little button on the outlook navigation bar which uses a soap interface to send data to your Sugar CRM install.

Does SugarCRM’s integration with Outlook encompass tracking of emails sent and received from leads using Microsoft Outlook, which means whenever a sales rep receive an email from a sales lead sent to his exchange account, the email will automatically be archived in the email database used for SUGARCRM.

Unless they have added to its functionality in the last few months it won’t do what you want. When I last checked it didn’t have any real integration with email, which was one of the reasons that put me off it

    Thanks!
what about this Microsoft Outlook email plug in that SugarCRM offers?
Windows-based Microsoft Outlook email plug-in allows users to archive customer emails into Sugar Sales CRM with a single click. This capability enables sales professionals to attach emails to a contact or an opportunity for tracking purposes.
I suppose we have to manually archive emails belonging to the respective lead?

Basically an email lands in your inbox in Outlook and then you have to manually send it to Sugar via the plugin.
It’s not bad, but it’s not the most useful either. I came across another company that have done some more “useful” things with sugar – check out my archives 🙂
