DCHK can’t replace WHOIS because it doesn’t contain any registrant information, just information about the status of the domains.
In addition, it’s *horribly* overengineered. Unnecessary use of XML a-go-go!

Essentially, it’s a heavyweight DAC protocol, so it’s not really a replacement, more an effort to standardise on a DAC protocol.
