Blog aggregators make keeping up with the latest posts a lot easier
Instead of having to subscribe to multiple RSS feeds or visit loads of blogs separately, you can easily track them all via your favourite aggregator.
In the Irish blogspace there are currently a number of services that I am aware of:
- IrishBlogs.ie – just got revamped with new features
- POTB – run by John Breslin
- IrishBlogs.info – run by me
- Planet ILUG – Irish Linux users’ blogs
Strangely enough they all use completely different software to do their aggregation.
IrishBlogs.ie has recently moved over to using WordPress with an RSS aggregation plugin.
Planet of the Blogs uses a PHP5 “planet”
IrishBlogs.info uses meta planet
Planet ILUG uses “planet planet” which is written in python
If you aren’t that technical you might find these differences terribly boring π
However there are some very interesting differences in the way each aggregator handles content (or fails to π )
Planet ILUG for example, uses some customised coding to allow users to add and edit their blog feeds.
Of course there are hundreds of aggregators out there at present, covering every imaginable topic. It can be interesting at times, however, to look at what actually drives them.
We’re still addding new ones. We’ve just completed the feature where bloggers can edit or delete their own posts (using AJAX). We’re also planning to add a feature whereby you can setup an alert for a particular keyword…such as “hosting” and get emailed any post with that word in it, either daily or weekly.
Roger – Where can I edit those details? I was looking at it the other night – am I missing something obvious?
I also posted a comment on your blog and it seems to have vanished π
Michele,
You have to log in to be able to do that. We’re working on passwords etc. I’ll email one off to you so you can be the first!
I’ll check into what happened there. These damn blog hosts, losing my comments like that… π
Regards,
Roger
Roger – I look forward to it π
Hosts!! *sigh* π
