The world seems to be caught up in Bond Fever at the moment.
Is Daniel Craig any good?
I’ll be going to see the film at some point over the next couple of days
Does it really matter?
Bond is pure escapism
I’ve always loved James Bond and would love to get myself one of those ultimate collections with every single DVD, but I really can’t justify the expense π
The attache case etc., would be really nice
Grandad says
There was only ever one James Bond – Sean Connery. The rest are just pale wannabes by comparison.
Incidentally, Sean connery is the only actor I ever saw who could play an Italian monk [The Name of the Rose] or a Russian sailor [Red Storm Rising] with a Scottish accent and get away with it!!
Grandad says
Correction – that should have been “Hunt for Red October”……
Kae Verens says
he also plays a british spy with a scottish accent…
I’ve seen the film. It’s good. It reminds me a lot of Lethal Weapon, with the huge amount of action involved.
the film starts the whole franchise all over again. Bond has just gotten his OO status, and it’s 2006.
I love how Bond just sees roundabout solutions to problems immediately. For example, in the free-runner chase, the bad guy is executing fantastic jumps and acrobatics to get around obstacles, but Bond uses intelligence, and uses the machinery around him to catch up on the guy.
there’s a lot of understated intelligence in this.
Richard Hearne says
Good movie – great action and a nice departure from the more recent franchise.
Not so sure about the storyline, sort of like a pilot. Good for sucking you in for the next episode.
If you like Bond, I cant imagine how you wont like this latest edition.
Cormac says
I’m not a big Bond fan, it’s too British ‘stiff upper lip’ for my liking but so far i’m hearing good things about this version. They have finally taken Bond from his 70’s persona as a chauvinist to a more modern hero. Thank Christ! I have a feeling they will make more money from this Bond crusade than the previous ones anyway…but it won’t be as good as the best re-edition of my time…Batman π
michele says
Gents – thanks for the comments.. I’ll have to see it now to find out for myself π
Cormac – Well Batman is another day’s work entirely
David Behan says
I’m going to see it tonight so I’ll tell you the ending later on. Hee Hee!!! Wait… bond saves the day and gets the girl… I betcha?!?!?!!!!
michele says
David
I’ve just been to see it, so I don’t mind π
– others might though

Kae Verens says
I’ll throw a few spoilers in…
1. James Bond has no kids, and we now know why.
2. IIRC, in the book, James married a girl, who was later killed by accident or something. In this one, there is no accident, and no marriage.
3. Nice cliff hanger. Makes you scream “and then??”
4. “M” is short for “M…” and I can’t utter another syllable as James was too scared to finish the damn word (although, I kept thinking of Richie and Eddie’s “Your Maaaaaam” in Bottom).
5. James dies in this. Really!!!
David Behan says
I was only joking! I wasn’t going to spoil it! Not a bad flick. Bit different to traditional bonds. Good all the same.
michele says
Kae
1 – We don’t really.. we can just suspect
2 – True
3 – Yup. Perfect for a sequel, which we know is coming anyway….
4 – Curse him!
5 – No comment π
David Behan says
I was thinking during the film… would they not of released this film next year… i.e. 2007… they could have played with the 007 in 2007 a bit in the marketing. But heh… bond doesn’t really need much marketing, does he!!!
michele says
007 – they’ll probably milk that for something else, like another DVD boxset or something .. Who knows?
