IrishBlogs.info FAQ

July 29, 2005 by Michele Neylon 10 Comments

This FAQ is a work in progress and will be updated as I receive queries via comments or email. If you have a question about anything please ask.

What is it?
It’s basically a list of the most popular Irish blogs
How can I join?
Signup on the site.
You will need to add a snippet of HTML to your blog to show the button. If you do not show the button your blog cannot be rated.
What about RSS?
Unless the button displays in your RSS feed it won’t be counted. If you want to count RSS subscribers I’d recommend feedburner
Which blogs can join?
Any Irish blog.
What is an Irish blog?
If you are Irish or blog about Ireland or live in Ireland you qualify.

Does my blog have to be hosted in Ireland?

No.
Can I use typepad / live journal / blogger ?
Yes. It doesn’t matter what blog system you are using.
Can I use a different image?
No. It is dynamically generated. If you are a graphic artist and want to offer a replacement button let me know πŸ™‚
Why is my site not showing any hits or views?
Please make sure that you have added the HTML code to your blog
How can I add the HTML code to my blog?
It depends on what you are using, but you should be able to add a snippet to the template. If you need help please ask.

How do I get the description underneath the site title in the top 100 blogs section? It’s there for some sites and not for others. The title of mine doesn’t exactly explain what it covers. πŸ™‚

    Hi Michele,
I must be missing something. πŸ™‚ I’ve filled in the Description box with this: “Covers events from my life, movie and music reviews, links to stuff on the web and the fortunes of the football team I coach” but it doesn’t appear on the listing.

It’s showing up in the “site details”, but not on the listing. I’ll have to do some digging into that. Leave it with me

I also posted this somewhere else, but seeing as I am on the lookout for some (valued) feedback, to quickly quote:
I have to say this is great stuff! As the business manager at Evo-Dev (we made evoTopsites), its great to see people taking the blogtopsites.com project (the first of now almost a dozen blogging topsites using evoTopsites) and applying it to their niche areas. Looking forward to seeing it grow, and we feedback on what could make the topsite software itself better and easier to use!

A word of warning – as we track hits, it becomes harder and harder on the server. We are working on a (paid) Pro version that will include query caching and thereby alleviate load issues. Just something to remember and be on the look out for.

    Thanks for your comment.
I might contact you directly about the caching issues if they arise

They refer to hits from the blog to the list and from the list to the blogs.
