After consulting with people in the know I bought a new camera recently.
It’s a Canon EOS 400D with a EF-S 18-55 mm Lens.
You can see some of the photos taken with it during my trip to Lisbon.
The problem I now face is lens.
Which ones do I need?
Where can I get them?
How much should I spend on them?
I am lost as usual!

Not sure what to recommend lens-wise, but I’d suggest checking http://www.cam-ireland.com for prices. Substantially cheaper than retail here, a lot of the time.
Asked a camera geek at work and he said:
“That is an awfully broad question, depends what you want to do etc. Perhaps they should sign up for the forums at dpreview.com and ask the question there. They should provide as much detail about what they want, kind of shooting they will do etc.”

Yup, depends on what you like. Do you like zoom or wide angle? I have a Sigma 18-200 lens which is a great bit of kit and reasonably priced.
On the other hand, I also have a Sigma 10-20 super wideangle which is my favourite lens and stays on 99% of the time now.
If you havea grand to blow you could get yourself a nice image stabilized zoom..

you sound a bit like a gadget freak who feels that there are the right things to have, and that’s what you want to know. But no one can give you advice because frankly from your flickr account, we don’t know what kind of photographs you want to take.
So what I would advise – normally – is this – play around with the kitlens which has a little bit of zoom and is reasonably wide and see where you are coming up short. The kitlens has its limitations, but it’s up to you to identify which of the limitations irk you. Unlike Donncha, I’m not all that interest in wide angle lenses at the moment – my main interest is reach and for that reason I have a 70-300mm zoom and a 50-500mm zoom lens. But unless you are doing a lot of sports and nature photography, I can’t see you needing the latter. The former is a useful enough lens though, I think. But I used the kitlens for one month travelling in Australia before I made any final decision of what lenses to buy.
I made quite a lot of use of the kit lens (before my camera died), this time around I went for body only and 50mm prime f1.8, though it hasnt arrived yet.
At the minute I’m using my uncle’s Tamron AF 18-200 mm F3.5 – F6.3. I’m really liking it a lot.

I’m a long time Canon camera/lens user.
As long as you already have the 18-55mm lens, you’ve the wide to normal angle covered. The next lens I’d recommend is the Canon 28-135mm IS (Image Stabilized)lens.
This is a very good lens for “everyday” use and has the extra benefit of IS.
