Hans Zimmer Explains “How” he did the Dune Soundtrack

Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack for Dune has been winning awards over the last few weeks and is nominated for an Oscar. Zimmer is also currently touring Europe with many of the musicians that performed on the soundtrack.

Over the last few days a few videos have been released by Warner Brothers and some media outlets that look at the making of the soundtrack as well as a live performance of one of the tracks.

Here’s the performance of the track which I think was shot while the musicians involved were in rehearsals for the current tour in Berlin:

A couple of the tracks from the Dune album are part of the set during the current tour and the show’s opening number in Dublin was from Dune.

Here’s Hans Zimmer and several of the musicians talking about how they created some of the sounds in the soundtrack:

For Dune Zimmer not only recorded the soundtrack but two further albums. One is described as a “sketchbook” inspired by the film, while the other was released as a digital download to accompany the book “The Art and Soul of Dune”.

Hans Zimmer is currently touring Europe and played Dublin on Sunday night. I’ve also got tickets for both Berlin and Krakow next month, because I’m a little obsessed! 🙂
