Even Big Companies Screw Up Emails

apple automated email with error

Transactional emails and marketing emails are a part of my daily life. I get emails from companies I buy things from. Sometimes they’re simply an acknowledgement of my purchase, but others times they’re also giving me a “heads up” in case my account has been compromised.

Apple, for example, does this when you download something from a “new” device.

Unfortunately somebody or something went a little wrong on their end so I got the below email:

Instead of it printing out the name of the item I downloaded all I got was the rather unhelpful “itemName” variable.

Well it was me that downloaded the item and I got the email less than 5 minutes after I completed the download, so no harm done.

But it does show that even really big companies can screw up their emails!

  1. The company is blacknight. All of the emails from them are noreply, including the one you just sent so i have to answer through this forum? Can you not just send me an email i can respond to?

  2. Terry

    Ah ok.
If you have an active account with Blacknight you’d have got that email this morning. It’s not a newsletter and you’re not on a “list”.
If you email gdpr@blacknight.com the team can remove any data we hold on you.
As for why it was sent from donotreply@ – that was a choice to address the issues with bounces, out of office replies etc., that would have flooded whatever mailbox or helpdesk queue we used.

    Thanks for your feedback
