Do RackFloor Have Something To Hide???

Over the last few months there has been news about a new data centre opening in Limerick.

They’re meant to be giving a brief talk at the next INEX meeting in Dublin…

So why on earth are they using “domain privacy” on their only domain name?

Nobody serious is going to do business with a company that doesn’t list proper contact details in WHOIS. It would be silly to do so. Of course if they were serious about the Irish market you’d think they’d have registered the .ie domain…

Maybe they’ll turn out to be a wonderful company, but they really need to get some of the basic right from the start.

  1. strange alright. They are based out in Raheen in Limerick (the old Verbatim Building). There was a bit on the Times recently and local news. I must do a bit of digging! 🙂

  2. The least they could do is list their transit providers. The CEO used to be the sales director of ServeCentric, and he was with InterXion before that, so he’s been in the business for a while.

  3. I don’t know any more than you. A couple of transit providers I use are saying that they’re considering dropping fibre in there, but nobody I know has anything in there yet.

  4. Nowhere near the same quantity that’s running into Cork. The ESB fibre network is your only option for backhaul. There’s tonnes of dark fibre in the ground ringing the major towns and linking to Galway & Dublin, but nobody’s interested in lighting it because there’s no proven demand. There’s a technology park, with a colo facility, going up in Shannon right now, so the two of them together might generate enough demand to get providers interested in offering some major bandwidth.

  5. nope…. but Digital River (major online software seller) are moving in there, and they’ll want some *major* bandwidth if they’re doing any hosting out of there.
