2017 Travel

2017 flights visualised

While I did clock up a lot of travel over the course of 2017, it was a quieter year overall.

Of course “quiet” is relative.

Here’s a visual overview of my travel in 2017:

Since I tend to fly mostly with Air France / KLM a lot of my flights get routed either through Paris or Amsterdam.

I spent the tail end of 2016 in the US and started 2017 with my annual trip to Las Vegas for CES.

Ethopian Airlines do a direct Dublin to Los Angeles flight which I took a couple of times over the last 12 months. They also do routes into Africa, which is why I flew via Addis Ababa. The schedule of the Ethopian flights is a little odd, but if you’re doing long-haul they’re a good option.

I was delighted to be able to spend a few days exploring South Africa, in particular Capetown and the area around it after the ICANN meeting in Joburg. I’d definitely go back to South Africa if I could.

In 2017 I didn’t do any trips to South America, which is unfortunate, but the bulk of events I was attending were in other parts of the world. I’ll be heading back to the region next year for sure.

I also didn’t spend any time in Asia in 2017, which again was due to how events panned out. That might change in 2018, though I’m not sure as yet.
